5 Ways to Keep Your Room Cool in Summer

When the weather outside is hot and sunny, finding a cool place to retreat is probably high on your list of priorities! To help you achieve a cool room, we’ve shared five top tips that you can follow with minimal fuss or bother – take a look now!

1. Keep Your Doors Closed

Closing doors behind you will stop cool air from escaping, giving you a lovely cool room to return to when you need to escape the heat. To get the best results, use a draught excluder and consider sealing other gaps in the doors to reduce any inlet of hot air.

If you leave your front door open, then your home will quickly become the same temperature as outside, leaving you nowhere to get relief from warm, stuffy air.

2. Install Quality Blinds

Having blinds in your room allows you to deflect the sun and reduce the amount of heat that gets in. However, it’s important to take the time to close the blinds tightly during the day, especially if your window faces north or west, so that you get the best results.

The right blinds will last for years, protecting you from the heat summer after summer and there are many different style and colour options available that will work with your décor.

3. Try Cotton Bed Linen

Cotton is one of the coolest fabrics you can buy and will work hard to keep you cool when you head to bed on a hot day. It is breathable and allows moisture to escape from your skin without making you feel sweaty and uncomfortable.

From loose cotton clothes to cotton bed linen, you can be certain that investing in this material will help you stay seriously comfy even when the heat just won’t go away!

4. Install Energy Saving Bulbs

The majority of homes now make use of energy saving lightbulbs, especially because they help to reduce your energy bills. However, if you don’t have energy saving bulbs yet, now is a good time to get them.

Incandescent light bulbs emit heat as the wire inside doesn’t light up until it’s so hot that it glows. This extra heat can add to the environment in your room, making it warmer in an already hot room. Energy efficient bulbs do not heat up, helping to keep your room cool.

5. Open the Windows at Night

Keeping your windows closed during the day is a good way to stop heat from getting in but when the evening rolls around, opening them may offer the relief you’ve been looking for. As the evening arrives, the air outside begins to cool down, offering you a cool breeze to enjoy.

The more windows and doors you can open at this point, the quicker your room will cool down – but don’t forget to close and lock everything before you go to sleep!

Don’t suffer when the weather gets hotter, try our top tips and be amazed at how well you can avoid the heat!
